Background
Located in the southern part of the Golan, 530 meters above the Kinneret, the moshav (village) of Givat Yoav is home to approximately 150 families.
Challenge
Dual pressure setting required
Water is supplied to Givat Yoav via a long supply line from an elevated source. In normal demand conditions, there is a need for low downstream pressure. However, in times of high demand – for example, in the event of water being used to extinguish a fire – a higher pressure setting is required.
Solution
Automatic, pilot-controlled, pressure-reducing valve
Dorot S300 PRM(Pu) – a patented, dual-set-point pressure-reducing valve – was commissioned and installed at the inlet point of the moshav. Activated by the pressure of the pipeline, the valve senses the upstream pressure, and automatically responds to changes in the flow in real time, by modulating the downstream pressure between two pre-set values: a low value when demand is low, and an increased pressure when demand is high. As an added advantage, being hydraulically-actuated, the valve is entirely independent, requiring no controller, no electronics and no batteries.
